How did you get your start in the fitness industry?
Alex: I was a Division 1 baseball player in college, and that’s when I fell in love with the weight room. Our college strength and conditioning program was a very structured program, and I became very focused on the weight room and nutrition. Baseball didn’t pan out, so I went back to school to become an accountant. At the time, my dream was to get a job in the FBI, so I moved to VA and had a desk job for a year. I was itching to get back into fitness, and that was the year I found CrossFit and became instantly hooked. Now, my new dream was to have my own gym and use everything I learned from my personal experience and from my fellow coaches to build my own brand. I began to pursue that dream by shifting out of the corporate world and becoming a personal trainer. I saved money, worked my way up, and eventually bought the gym I was training at, Patriot CrossFit, this past April. The brand may have changed, but the community has stayed the same.
What’s the story behind Patriot CrossFit?
Alex: In 2016, I walked into a gym called Patriot CrossFit. The Patriot community was like a massive family, and it reminded me of my college team. For a few years I worked part-time at Patriot CrossFit and eventually left to pursue my dream of owning my own gym. I became a full time personal trainer and CrossFit coach at several different locations but eventually made my way back to the Patriot community. When I described the gym I dreamed of owning, it was Patriot CrossFit. In 2021, I became the owner. We have exceptional staff and a community that is like no other. Regardless of your fitness goals we will help you achieve them. If you are in your early 20’s and want to be a competitive athlete, we will help you achieve that. If you are in your late 70’s and want to play with your grandchildren, we will help achieve that.
What’s your best nutrition advice?
Alex: I would say to listen to your body. If your body is hungry, make sure you fuel it. Food is fuel! I want everyone at my gym to achieve the best version of themselves. That’s why I preach on nutrition and I preach on moving well. I don’t care how much someone can move one time, I care about how they can move over and over again. That’s what I built my brand on.
How did you discover MightyMeals?
Alex: I discovered MightyMeals through a gym I used to work at in 2018. I started ordering MightyMeals because it was super convenient; I would order 24 meals each week and eat all of them! Not only were the meals delicious, they had all the nutrients I needed. After ordering MightyMeals frequently, I started to see my strength pick up right away. I kept placing better and better at competitions and I knew this was directly related to my nutrition. MightyMeals helped to close that gap and also pushed me to become a NASM Certified trainer and nutrition coach.
Why do you recommend MightyMeals to your athletes?
Alex: I love the variety that MightyMeals offers; you never feel stuck eating the same dish each week because there are so many good ones to choose from and tons of different flavor profiles. The meals are fresh and taste delicious. You can’t go wrong with what you pick, believe me I have tried them all! One big thing that I love about MightyMeals is how they have the macros featured on the label. This makes it easy for my clients to choose the meals that fit into the macro limitations that I have recommended for them.
What’s your favorite MightyMeals dish?
Alex: Oh, that’s easy. The Shredded Beef Tacos!
