MightyMeals Teams Up With Real Food for Kids to Feed the Community

MightyMeals Joins Chefs Feeding Families to Support Those Impacted by COVID-19 School Closures

Burke, Va. — When MightyMeals co-founders and Northern Virginia natives, Dan Graziano, Stefano Marzano and Alex Lebonitte found out that children were going without food in their own backyard, they knew they had to do something to help. On April 2, MightyMeals began delivering healthy, ready to eat meals to Real Food for Kids: Chefs Feeding Families, a joint initiative with Washington, D.C., metro-area restaurants to provide nourishing grab-and-go meals to families impacted by school closures and job losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative was co-founded by Chef David Guas of Bayou Bakery, Coffee Bar & Eatery in Arlington, Virginia, and Real Food for Kids.

As the school closures continued due to COVID-19, MightyMeals was eager to join Real Food for Kids: Chefs Feeding Families to serve free, nutritious meals to needy children and families in the Washington, D.C., metro area. MightyMeals will continue to donate between 100 and 200 meals a week over the next two months to those most affected by the COVID-19 crisis to be distributed from Bayou Bakery on Thursdays and Fridays from 11am-1pm alongside offerings from Chef Guas. To date MightyMeals has donated more than 700 meals to the initiative.

“The need for healthy meal options for low-income families has escalated given the recent school closings and job losses associated with COVID-19,” said Jenn Yates, Executive Director of Real Food for Kids. “We are grateful to Mighty Meals this generous donation, providing families peace of mind that they will have another delicious meal they can eat later in addition to the hot meals being distributed by Bayou Bakery.” Partnering with Real Food for Kids made the most sense for MightyMeals whose mission is to empower people to live healthier lives by being the leading provider of healthy, high-quality, locally sourced, chef-prepared meals that are delivered fresh to your door.

“This is a situation near and dear to our hearts, and we are grateful for the opportunity to give back to a community who has given so much to us,” said Dan Graziano, co-founder of MightyMeals.

The free, healthy grab-and-go meals supplements the hot meals Chef Guas’ team provides to families five days a week. Each meal served through the Chefs Feeding Families initiative aligns with Real Food for Kids’ mission to increase access to healthy, whole foods for all children. These free, healthy meals are meant to complement the emergency meal distribution being implemented by local public school districts and other community-based organizations throughout the DC metro area. MightyMeals is following CDC recommendations for preparing food and heightened their already strict, certified food safety practices to ensure the health and safety of each family.
